Don’t Give Up

Song: Don’t Give Up
Artist: Peter Gabriel – featuring Kate Bush

I have to admit this song really pissed me off this morning. So much so that I couldn’t even listen to it. The haunting melody. Kate Bush’s beautiful voice. The encouraging words (about love?). Not having it today. I’m going deeper.

And why this song, with its message to not give in to pressures or sadness or tough times?

I am the one to always find the positive spin, the good side of a person, to brush off the slights and nastiness of weaker people in my world, to find gratitude in this moment, to find something sparkly and of the highest good. Well, that is great except for when you have pushed so much of that toxicity into your body that you are literally inflamed and on fire inside or even worse, the fire has caused a short circuit for the whole system.

My journey has brought me to a moment of remembering past injustices in a very particular aspect of my world and how they can continue to harm me left unchecked.

Turning the other cheek in the face of injustice can only continue for so long until a body can literally no longer take it. This has been an incredibly intensive month of healing for me. Healing my body because it literally froze and would not move for months. Why are you so guarded, Liz? Let it go, Liz. Lots of supportive suggestions, but what do you do if the body remains unmoveable. Turns out, our miraculous bodies do all kinds of things to keep us safe as we journey through our human world.

When faced with cumulative toxicity, we can let it go and ground it out of us, or we can stuff it deep into the energy channels of our body. As someone who holds on emotionally, I chose the latter…for all these years. As you can imagine, the channels can get full over a lifetime. And, lucky for me, I am able to call upon the best practitioners to assist me when it’s time for healing. It takes a village, and in this enclave of Boulder, Colorado, the village is full of advanced and effective healers.

Lucky for me, I have a team!

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) speaks of our qi (energy) and the meridians (pathways) our life force energies flow through to maintain and sustain our human body. Acupuncture and herbs have become more mainstream in recent years. And yet, there are still esoteric practices that require advanced understanding and a willingness for deep healing.

The experience that initiated today’s dramatic reaction to this song was having my Luo points drained. It sounds like bleeding perhaps with leeches, but it was more subtle than that. A lancet was used to open the channels to “drain” the stagnant energy. My practitioner actually did two treatments over several days to drain two separate channels, one for my kidneys (seat of our life force) and one for my heart.

If left unchecked, the toxicity of this stagnant energy can poison the related organ.

Consider how that could manifest in all forms in relation to the Heart…heartbreak, a closed heart, chest pains, unfulfilled love, heart disease, no passion for life, lack of clarity about your dreams and desires. It has taken a couple weeks for the integration of this healing to flow through to feeling the deeper release. A new life is emerging and will probably take a bit more time to appear fully embodied.

Any place that is not at maximum health or moving smoothly with strength and power may need review. Aging does not have to be an excuse for physical, emotional or mental immobility.

Reflections

  • Where in your body are you stuck? What emotions or experiences might be living there?
  • What practice do you have to ground and clear your energy?
  • How can you stand up effectively as a witness and offer support in the face of your own personal injustice?
  • How do you care for your precious heart when times are tough?
  • What healing practice is calling to you?
