Song: Linger
Artist: The Cranberries
While the lyrics are sad and about unavailable love, the music calls us to stroll down a pretty lane, browse in an interesting shop, laugh with a friend, pet the dog on a walk, enjoy an ice cream cone…not a cup…it takes more lingering.Â
I don’t hear sadness…just the call to slow down and take it in.
Obviously, we had no way to know that Dolly Parton would leave this realm yesterday. There has been such a huge outpouring of tributes from all around the entertainment world. Even the National Park Service and the National Audubon Society each posted a beautiful appreciation of her life. She shared her bright light with the world. Thank you, Dolly, for sharing the love and helping us to see it!!
I'd like to think that her soul is lingering with us a moment longer to give one more sparkle of her light.

Sometimes the meaning of a song, or how it hits our heart, is so much more than what we see on the surface.Â
And…that’s my take on it.
Maybe it’s the lyrics for you today…that’s the beauty of the HeartShine practice. It’s all about YOUR heart.
Reflections
- What does your heart need today?
- Where could you linger just a bit longer?
- Who or what comes into focus if you take an extra moment?
- Where could you move with just a bit more mindfulness, joy and appreciation instead of rushing through the day?
Try this
- Throw the word ‘linger’ into the mix of your vocabulary. It has a particular vibe.
- Linger over your meal. Eat slowly and appreciate the taste of the food. Smile at your dining companion(s). Laugh. Smile even if you are solo – being joyfully with yourself.
- Try a news blackout. Have a trusted source who can tell you if there is something really urgent to know in the day. (I did this for years until the pandemic happened and the need for community and world connection became so necessary that the news was an important part of my day.)
