What are you looking for?

Song: Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For
Artist: U2

Today is Thanksgiving in the United States.  Not only did this powerful U2 song come through today, but the version that played from the Divine was the performance with the gospel choir from the movie, Rattle & Hum.

Check out the original version of the song, too! It’s powerful in its own right, just no gospel choir.

For me today, the energy of this song was a gateway to deeper feelings that would also reveal themselves through more music. This song is so powerful in its own right AND THEN a gospel choir is added AND the transformative energy of gratitude flowing on a day like Thanksgiving.  Let me tell you what happened for me.

As I started a Zoom yoga class in my living room Thanksgiving morning with a very reverent teacher at Yoga on Center in a place that truly showcases the bounty of the harvest, Sonoma County, CA, Alexa started to play my favorites as I requested while the yoga flow began.  The first song Alexa played brought me to my knees and serves as a special second song for this powerful day.

Precious Love by James Morrison

I was so lost, didn’t know what to do with myself

I was my own worst enemy

I was lost and know I needed help

Then you came along and saw the state I was in

You picked me up, when I was down

Showed me how to live again

I say thank you for pulling me through, I’m a lucky man

I didn’t know what life was but now I, I understand…

…

This is precious love, oh it’s precious love

No, I can’t get enough

Oh, I’m down on my knees, begging you please

Give me some more of that stuff…

The yoga class continued.

I felt stronger, grounded and my heart opened with each back bending pose we did. Typical for Thanksgiving yoga classes and welcome always in my practice. So much power in my open heart.  It has been harder to access during the last few weeks with so much change in my life and so much heart healing underway. As if my heart needed to catch its breath…to go into its own quiet place to restore and rebuild.

The music Alexa played from my favorites was an incredible list of great songs, perfect for my Thanksgiving yoga class.  And then, the last song from Alexa as we prepared for the final resting pose…Don’t Give Up by Peter Gabriel (with Kate Bush).  This is the song that broke me open and let my anger out two days prior. A perfect full circle. This time a fully opened, stronger heart allowed me to hear the words I couldn’t hear a couple days early. With my anger cleared, I could hear the beauty and the reminder: Don’t give up.

Don’t Give Up by Peter Gabriel (with Kate Bush)

Rest your head

You worry too much

It’s gonna be alright

When times get rough

You can fall back on us

Don’t give up

Please don’t give up…

…

You know it’s never been easy

Don’t give up

‘Cause I believe there’s a place

There’s a place where we belong

  • What form of movement or exercise connects you to your heart?
  • Are you protecting your heart?
  • How does your heart feel when it’s open? What do you experience when it’s more closed?
  • What healing might be needed to free your heart and take you to the next level of living courageously?
  • What are you still looking for?
  • What courage do you need to find it? How will you say yes when it shows up?
  • What precious love can you rely on? Where do you find this precious love?
